Battle of Somme remembrance

Today at 7:30am marked 100 years since the beginning of the battle of Somme. Children had an assembly this morning where they gave a 2 minute silence out of respect. Continuing this, this afternoon they made poppies to thank the soldiers that sacrificed their lives for ours.

Victorian Inventions

This afternoon we have been researching what was invented during the Victorian times and how it has helped to change the world. One fact we found out was that the light bulb was invented in 1878 by Joseph Wilson-Swan and Thomas Edison. The light bulb is a very important invention because without it we would spend a lot of our days and nights in darkness. What do you think the most important invention is from the Victorian times?

This afternoon we cut out our poppies and wrote a message to the soldiers that fought for us in the war.

After that, we researched some facts about the heroes that are shown on the website. We found out some interesting facts. For example, did  you know that Winston Churchill was the British prime minister? Or that William John Streets was a soldier and a famous poet?

What facts have you found out?

El Dorado

We have painted what we think El Dorado (the Lost City of Gold) would like. How do think it might look?

Sir Walter Raleigh

Today we have been researching the life and times of Sir Walter Raleigh. We have created a timeline of his life as well as keynotes about him. Did you know he went to the Amazon Rainforest to search for El Dorado (the Lost City of Gold). Do you think he found it?

Amazon Rainforest

Welcome back for the summer term. This term class 6 will be learning about Rainforests. We will be focussing on the Amazon Rainforest. We have already learnt that it can be found in South America and is home to many animals and tribes.

Animating myths

We have been learning about Viking myths. Today we had to animate the myth ‘Odin’s thirst for knowledge’.

Armistice day

Today is Remembrance Day, where we remember the solders who fought in World War 1 (1914-1918). These are the medals that my grandad received when he fought in World War 2.

Today we have been learning about remembrance and armistice days. We have made our own wreath by writing a message to the soldiers who gave their lives so that we can be safe and happy. What did you learn about remembrance?

You can find out more about Remembrance by visiting our class page on the school website.
